What the owners say It has been a pleasure and a privilege to own. We converted the barn ourselves to a very high standard for function hire, allowing the Hall to be used as a Wedding Venue and for other business opportunities. It should not be too difficult to regain a license for weddings, subject to introducing an exit driveway. Our business plans now lead us elsewhere and it's time for someone else to have the thrill of owning this unique property. 

History and Background This handsome, historic Manor House stood amidst beautiful gardens and providing ample acreage, with a long sweeping avenue entrance which winds its way to the well-screened private house.
The Hall (whilst conveniently not listed) offers an interesting history, dating from 1695 when the house was rebuilt by famous London pewterer Alexander Cleeve, but the estate itself dates back to at least the time of Edward the Confessor and is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086.

Around 1461, shortly after it became the property of Robert, 1st Earl of Gloucester and son of Henry I, it passed to Henry Bounchier, the 1st Earl of Essex. Crimean war hero Major-General Sir Harry St. George Ord (1818-1895), later Her Majesty's Colonial Governor of first Bermuda and then Western Australia, was brought up at the Hall. The house was significantly extended by Philip J. Budworth in 1875, giving it its magnificent Georgian facade.

The estate boundaries today are continuous with those described in the Domesday Book
