SITUATION & LOCATION Oak House is an imposing Grade II listed house occupying a central position within the towns' conservation area with frontage onto the High Street. Believed to have been originally a coach house, we understand that the earliest record of the house is 1730. In the 1900's it became the local Doctors house with the adjacent cottage being used as the surgery until the 1970's when it was used as a Bed & Breakfast. In 1984 it became a retirement home for the elderly until 2002 when it became the home of music publishers. Since then it has continued to be a private dwelling house.

Oak house has of course been improved and modernised over the years whilst retaining many period and unique features. Below we have included the description as outlined in the Listed Buildings Register. This specifically focuses on the architectural aspects of the property from the Parapet gables with gable chimneys of gault brick to the Sash windows with segmental arched heads and the eighteenth century moulded cornices and full fielded panelling.

The extensive accommodation is over three floors plus a basement cellar and includes a Drawing room and Dining Room plus kitchen and laundry rooms to the ground floor; five first floor bedrooms, two bathrooms and an en suite to the first floor and a guest suite to the second floor comprising two further bedrooms and a bathroom as well as a kitchen and living room. The principle accommodation has gas heating whilst the guest suite has electric heating. The delightful formal gardens lie to the rear of the property and a driveway to the side leads to a large open bayed double cart lodge.

The sale of Oak House represents a unique opportunity to purchase an outstanding home of character in the town and as it's history suggests, offers the potential for a number of alternative uses or to be enjoyed as a lovely family home. Internal viewings are highly recommended.
